Knowledge Sharing: The Generative Power of Remixing: A case study of the Sampling in Brittany Howard’s “He Loves Me”

About the event

Remixing is a technique often looked down on thanks to the misconception that to remix is simply to regurgitate previous ideas. However, remixing, if done right, has a generative power that we believe has yet to be explored to its full potential. That’s why, with this Knowledge Sharing, we will introduce a piece of art that did remix right. After sampling a sermon, the artist re-contextualised this message in order to radically transform its spiritual meaning in the process. A vision of God’s authority is rewritten, and an alternative religious understanding is channeled. This is the generative power of remixing.
