The speech was delivered by the keynote speaker Rick Yvanovich, TRG International Founder and CEO, and attracted more than 200 attendees. Through the seminar, we hope to inspire the future generation to develop their self-motivation skills.

Motivation vs. Self-motivation

Rick started off the seminar with the definition of motivation and self-motivation. Motivation is an intangible force, it cannot be touched or seen, but it is the force that prompts us to achieve set goals. On that same note, self-motivation is the element that makes us want to be more devoted and hard-working. The difference between them is self-motivation comes from within ourselves.

4 key factors for self-motivation

The key point for this seminar is to inspire students to develop their self-motivation skills

During the seminar, Rick indicated four crucial factors that anyone can use to build and retain self-motivation.

The first factor is “believe in yourself.” If we don’t believe in ourselves, how can we convince others to trust our capabilities? To amp up the presentation, Rick introduced two activities, “My portrait is” and “Your portrait is”, which can endorse positive thinking and increase self-recognition and self-trust.

Rick also encouraged the students to take note of their daily thoughts. It is a recognised effective method in controlling and transforming your negative thoughts. The daily note-taking task can turn into a habit. Once accustomed with that habit, we will be able to naturally emit the self-recognition, self-motivation from deep within.

The third crucial factor is to set the goals and fully focus on those goals when putting them into action. Setting goals will provide us with a clear vision for commitments and challenge us to reach the targets. While explaining this point, Rick added: “It is better that you only focus on a few things at a time and actually achieve them instead of doing everything and not getting anywhere.”

The last but most important factor is having an environment that stimulates motivation. The key is to stay close to people that can help us build self-motivation. Finding a mentor or a role model with the skills and capabilities that you are trying to become plays an important role in discovering self-motivation.

The seminar ended with Rick sharing a piece of his wisdom: “Self-motivation is always the key to uplift our spirits when we feel down, exhausted, or whenever we feel our goals are out of reach.”
