On May 24th, 2025, the TRG team and their family members embarked on an inspiring day trip outside the bustling city to immerse themselves in the fresh air and natural beauty of Binh Chau Nature Reserve.
A day of reforestation at Binh Chau Nature Reserve
A total of 25 participants, including spouses and children of TRG staff, gathered early at the TRG office at 5:30 a.m., eager to begin their journey to Binh Chau. On the way, they engaged in a variety of fun activities to warm up and foster team spirit.
One of the most engaging activities was “Catch the Word,” which elicited plenty of laughter and joy. It challenged participants to see if their colleagues could read their minds through their drawings, creating a lively and humorous atmosphere.
Despite a light rain, everyone’s spirits remained high. Guided by a shared vision—to contribute to the health of the planet, even if just one tree at a time—they planted dozens of Hopea Odorata saplings. These tiny yet robust seedlings are destined to grow tall, support diverse life forms, and eventually form a forest of hope for future generations.
It had been a year since their previous tree-planting trip. This time, the team revisited Binh Chau to observe the young trees they had planted last year. Although the saplings had grown taller, they recognized that it takes years for a tree to reach maturity, provide shade, and develop roots that prevent soil erosion. Patience was key, as they understood that meaningful growth requires time.

Hopea Odorata – A Tree of Tradition and Ecology
The team carefully chose Hopea Odorata for its resilience and ecological value. Native to Southeast Asia, this tropical tree thrives in both lowland rainforests and upland forests, making it an adaptable species essential for restoring degraded ecosystems. Its importance extends beyond ecology:
• Traditional Medicine: The bark and leaves have been used for centuries to treat ailments such as fever and inflammation, reflecting cultural heritage and medicinal wisdom.
• Ecological Role: The Hopea Odorata provides shelter and nesting sites for various birds and insects. Its deep roots help prevent soil erosion, maintain soil health, and retain water—functions vital to ecosystem balance.
